About this application
What it does
An artisan picks a garment (saree, mekhala chador, dupatta, stole or cushion cover) and designs each part on its own: the body, the borders, the pallu or the ends. For every motif they choose a size, how many times it repeats, and the spacing.
Exact, not approximate
MorXaj calculates the layout in whole threads for woven work and to a sixteenth of an inch for printing. When a motif does not fit exactly it never stretches or crops it: it shows what is left over and offers to resize the motif, spread the space between repeats, add it to the margins, or change the number of repeats.
Ready for the loom
Every design ends in a production sheet: the size to make each motif, how many times to repeat it across and down, the spacing and margins, in the artisan's own terms: "30 daralu × 25 motlu, repeat 5 times across".
Made for each cluster
Each cluster sees its own garments and motifs (the jala charts of Venkatagiri, the muga mekhala chador of Assam) and designs are saved to the artisan's account.
